The First Post

Isn’t the first post always the hardest? You had an idea, you set up the site, and then it comes time to post… now what? I’m sure not everyone goes through this, but here’s what might have happened, at least in my case.

The Idea

Sometimes the idea is the easy part. You’ve been reading posts from others, watching people on TikTok or YouTube, and you think to yourself, “What a wonderful world…” Ok, maybe not that, but you think that you should start a blog or YouTube channel because it looks easy and you have that great idea.

Mine? It was to share my knowledge and experience in parenting, life, career, and anything else I think I might know something about or might be learning and want to share the journey. So I figured out roughly what I wanted to talk about and came up with a catchy name, or maybe had some help, but who needs that information?

The Website

So now that you have the idea, it’s time to see if the name you came up with has been used and if not, whether you can register that catchy domain name. It took some time, but once the name was settled on, I did some searches and was able to register wisdom-unbranded.me

Now remember, I did say I was a techy, and since I have set up other WordPress sites, I went with WordPress being hosted on AWS LightSail. There are easier ways to get a blog up and running, but I don’t like easy. I like a small challenge and to over-engineer everything, because that’s what developers do, right?

The Theme and Style

This didn’t take up too much time as I wanted something simple. I’m not a designer, I’m a backend developer, so I went with simple and looked for a theme that matched my style. That took maybe an hour to find a theme, get it installed, and go through some of the settings.

I’m sure as the journey moves on, I’ll make some changes and make the site more pleasing to the eyes, or I’ll find someone who can, as I know my limits. But for now, this is it!

It’s Live!

It’s live! You can navigate to the site and see your domain, your theme, and maybe a cool logo you created, or had someone create, or used AI. You can stop judging now! So it’s live, but as with any new site, there’s no content. No problem, right? You had all those great ideas and kept going over and over in your mind what you would start your blog with.

Blank

Yep, you hit that new post button, you get that big blank canvas to start your new post, and your mind is now as blank as that page. What happened to all the ideas, all the things you wanted to say? They ran out the door like your kids when you let them take the car out for the first time.

So I made it easy for myself – I decided to post about the experience I had making my first post. I don’t even want to think about making my first video for YouTube or TikTok. I might save that for another day.
